Fan Convention

The fan convention is an opportunity to listen to stories from people who have been closely involved in a-ha’s history, and ask them questions about their experiences. This year’s guest speakers are:

Stian Andersen

Stian Andersen is Norway’s foremost music photographer. He has travelled around the world on various assignments for clients in the fashion, music, commercial and documentary photography industry, and has produced more than 50 album covers for Norway’s biggest acts (including Royksopp, Turbonegro and Susanne Sundfør). Stian Andersen was A-ha´s official photographer for ten years, shooting many of the band’s promotional photos and documenting their last three tours. His photographs of A-ha were exhibited in Oslo, London, and Tokyo, and were published in the book “a-ha Photographs 1994-2010”. More recently Stian has begun directing music videos, including the video for Morten’s latest single “Do You Remember Me?”

Terry Slater

Terry Slater has over 50 years’ experience in the music industry, across many facets of the business including song writing, publishing, A&R, and as a promoter and manager. Terry became a-ha’s manager in 1983 after hearing a demo of the song “Lesson One” (which later became “Take On Me”) that the band had produced at John Ratcliff’s Rendezvous Studios. He set up a series of auditions for a-ha, resulting in their worldwide contract with Warner Bros Records, and the rest, as a-ha fans know, is history!

Terry continued to manage a-ha until their break in the 1990s. He had a close relationship with the Everly Brothers, for whom he had played bass in the 1960s and had introduced a-ha to the band in 1984. The Everly connection endured, and a-ha played the Everly Brothers song “Bowling Green” on their Everly Brothers guitars as a tribute to Terry (who co-wrote the song in 1967) at the final a-ha concert in Oslo on 4th December 2010. When a-ha were awarded the Royal Order of St Olav in November 2012, Terry returned the favour, leading the speeches of tribute to a-ha.
