“Bergen International Festival is a central power source in Norwegian art and culture, and I am pleased that one of Norway’s foremost and versatile artists has accepted the important position of chairman. With his international network and wide experience, Magne Furuholmen will strengthen the Festival in the years to come,” says the Minister of Culture, Linda Hofstad Helleland.
As a member of a-ha, Magne Furuholmen has for more than 30 years distinguished himself in Norwegian and international music. Since his debut as a visual artist in 1989, Furuholmen’s work is represented in institutions both at home and abroad. Furuholmen is currently a board member of QSPA – The Queen Sonja Print Award, as well as Snøhetta Brand design. He is a former board member of Norske Grafikere (The Association of Norwegian Print-makers) and in 2012, he was awarded The Order of St. Olav – Knight, First Class, for his services to Norwegian culture.
Magne Furuholmen succeeds Åse Kleveland, who has been chairman since 2012.
“The position as chairman for Bergen International Festival is a great honour and a prestigious national responsibility,” says Furuholmen. “The high level of artistic quality maintained throughout the years is very impressive. My role as chairman will be to facilitate further development of the festival’s international orientation, and build on the good work by the administration and former chairman.”
Local Politician in Bergen, Hilde Onarheim (H) will be the personal substitute for Magne Furuholmen.
Herman Friele is appointed the state member of the Representatives for Bergen International Festival for the period 2016-2019. Friele succeeds Gisle Johnsen. Friele is a businessman, and former member of the Bergen City Councel for the period 2003 – 2007, as well as mayor in the same period.
Personal substitute for Herman Friele is Elisabeth Arnfinsen Seim – director of BI, Bergen.
Magne Furuholmen participates as an artist in this year’s festival with the multi-disciplinary ensemble Apparatjik. This is part of a future project, which has been planned for a long time as a collaboration between Bergen International Festival and other partners.
