The Hut Project
Aspire Design Studios, the company responsible for the technical development, design and support for a-ha.com, is currently involved in a very worthy and impactful effort to help orphans in a remote part of South Africa. With the enthusiastic support of a-ha and their management, we want to let you all know about this cause and how your support can make a difference.
The Hut Project
Excerpts from http://thehutproject.org tell the story:
The community of Ingwavuma, a remote rural part of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, suffers from extreme poverty, where 40% of the population are HIV+ and are dying of AIDS related illnesses. The life expectancy is just 39 years. Daily living is already a great struggle, water is scarce and food a constant worry. It is such hard work to build a hut when you are sick and hungry, and yet women and children have to build homes for their families.
Can our volunteers do the same at Hampton Court?
It was a simple and innocent question that inspired our group to build a stick house – home to too many in Kwa-Zulu. We want to draw attention to the poverty, and that we, the fortunate, can make a difference. We will be building and then sleeping in a stick house identical to those found [in Ingwavuma], but this one will be in the gardens of Hampton Court Palace in August 2010 – a huge contrast.
During August, between the 18th and 21st, a handful of volunteers will be building a Zulu hut on the East Front lawn of Hampton Court Palace. ALL money raised from this project will go directly to Orphan Care, a charity which works in Ingwavuma. Orphan Care is hoping to build the first hospice in the area to provide palliative care for the dying. At the moment there is no support for families and people die without dignity in their huts, with no pain relief.

Absolutely brilliant idea! I wish I could help with this project. But the U.S. is a little far away. Please let us know who we can be of assistance over here! Thank you and God bless! :0)
what a wonderfull idea! i live is south africa & see a lot of sad & wonderful things happening in this country. thank you for your wonderful help & god bless.
I could feel the positive energy radiating from the three of you when I was close to you in March in Buenos Aires. You are very special people!! I felt that with all three, but with Morten was higher, he has a light special ….
I want to express my admiration not only in the musical aspect, also for actions in support of this cause. Doing these actions is very rewarding for the soul! God bless!
My dear friends:
This class of projects seems to me to be absolutely laudable and deeply human… It is really very painful that there could be so many persons in the world suffering in a so terrible way, lacking even the most minimal thing to survive and to support their dignity, when our occidental societies, of deeply Christian roots, live dominated by a technology increasingly fierce, for a very strong consumerism and for a totally reprehensible frivolity…
Because of it, I wanted to congratulate you to the three, with all my heart, for your goodness and for remembering always of “the poorest between the poor”, as was saying the Mother Teresa of Calcutta…
I would wish to there be many contributions, each one according to our possibilities, to support this beautiful project and many others…
There are so many needs in the world!!! It is really big to make the others happy with your wonderful music, but still it is more important to fight for the dignity of persons, so trampled often with impunity…
Many, many thanks, Morten, Paul and Mags, for your example and your determination in the Good and Justice!!!
That God fills you with benedictions and protects you from any evil!!!
A lot of kisses of someone who admires you infinitely and dies to know you!!!

MY DEAREST:
I HOPE THAT THIS ADMIRABLE PROJECT IS PROGRESSING VERY MUCH AND THAT, BETWEEN ALL, WE COULD DO THE LIFE OF THESE POOR PERSONS IS A BIT MORE BEARABLE…
I WISH KNEW MANY PEOPLE TO SEND THEM THIS REQUEST OF HELP… BUT I AM SURE THAT, WITH THE GOD’S HELP, IT WILL BE ABLE TO CONSTRUCT THIS HOSPICE AND TO REALIZE OTHER THINGS FOR THEM. I WOULD LIKE VERY MUCH TO KNOW THE PROGRESSES REALIZED IN THIS RESPECT.
MANY, MANY THANKS FOR YOUR BIG FEELINGS TOWARDS THE MOST DISADVANTAGED!!!!!! WE NEED MANY PEOPLE AS YOU TO ACHIEVE THAT THIS WORLD IS A BIT MORE JUST AND HUMAN…
GOD TAKES CARE OF YOU VERY MUCH ALWAYS!!!!!!
A VERY, VERY STRONG EMBRACE OF SOMEONE WHO ADMIRES YOU AND LOVES YOU DEEPLY FOR ALL WHAT YOU ARE!!!!!!!!!
EVEN SOON!!!!!!
Ana Casares.
