Vote for your favorite fan party logo!
Over the past month, we have received some great fan party logo designs from fans around the world. There were more than 50 designs, and we’re very impressed with all the creative ideas. Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest!
We have now chosen 10 finalists, and we’d like you to help us decide which logo to use on t-shirts and other party items. See the designs and vote below!
Update 16 September: Voting is now closed. Due to some irregularities with voting, we will do our best to determine which design the majority of fans voted for based on unique votes. The winner will be announced soon, thank you all again for participating!
Update 8 September: Thank you all for the helpful feedback regarding Logo #9 below, it is indeed not precisely what was asked for in the contest rules, and is more of an illustration than a logo due to the use of gradients. Our apologies about this.
To keep things fair and ensure that the qualifying nine designs have an equal chance to be chosen, we have removed #9 as an option and we ask that you all please vote again. Thank you once again for your help choosing the best fan party logo!

The logos are great, some are beautiful and wonderful, congratulations to the artists that made it, and I wish the party it’ll be a very special night, I wish you spend a special moment, you will keep a very special memorie in yours hearts. a-Ha alway will be in mine because is a very special group in my life, they have always been in very special moments of my life. I think that the last two are the best ones!! But the others are great too! =)
I think number 9 is beautiful for a promotional flyer or poster but that is not a logo, a logo is something that is easily transferable to many different media and should be economical to reproduce in print. Number is the simplest and most elegant of this type as exemplified by the tshirts and cups. Imagine if the McDonalds logo was as busy as number 9. Not easily recognisable.
I was missing the number 6 as the example in the last comment.
They are very nice logos. I narrowed it down to #9 and #5. I chose #9.

MOUSEMATT I totally agree with you, all the designs are beautiful, but the 9th isn’t a logo. I chose the 6th too. It can be printed on a t-shirt and it would be fantastic to have one of this special t-shirt at the party, don’t you think ? It would be a good memory of the party and all the special moments we shared with a-ha .

I think the logo needs to translate across many media touch-points, on t-shirts, tickets, merchandise, posters etc, and be recognisable as part of the a-ha “brand”.
My vote goes to logo 7 with the execution shown on the other items, great, simple and strong typography – showing how it can be used on multiple items. Good job!
Logo 9 looks swish, but as others have said, it’s not a logo – it’s an illustration (nice Photoshop work though!)

They are all really great logos, it’s a difficult choice, but my favourite now as a printlogo for T-Shirts, lanyards, cups, and so on is Nr. 5, combined by the lettering of Nr. 9 below the logo: “the OFFICIAL a-ha FANPARTY – ENDING ON A HIGH NOTE (or ‘THE LAST HURRAH’) – 3 (without rd) DECEMBER” in front of the bigger lettering “OSLO 2010″ in matching blue-tonalities.
For paperprints i would also prefer Nr. 9, but by adding 3 ,the daydate, otherwise it’s wonderful.:-)))

Well done, they are all great designs; but not all great logos. No 9 is a fabulous design and would work beautifully on an album, DVD or book cover, but its subtleties will be lost in the print process required for mugs and t-shirts etc. My preferred logo is no 6, clean, simple and sharp to print on merchandise. Also nice meaning to the image which could easliy become iconic!

However, when I hear a word “logo”, I usually come up with something simple and easy enough to understand what it is about. So, I chose a simple one.

Regarding the logo 9 is a beautiful work of digital image, but this is not what was asked. I agree with what has been said, this is not a logo but an illustration. It should not be included with the other logos. This is not respectful towards people who have responded well to the request. Only the logo 5 (its “brother” that is good too) could be taken into account, except that it uses at least 8 different colors… Participants had to use only 4 colors max without gradient.
For others, I think that there are good ideas and sometimes the simplest are the best.

acho que está bem criativo e simbólico.O 5 e o 9 estão bonitos,mas eu acho que poderiam melhorar um pouco.Bem,essa é minha opinião,cada um pensa da forma que quizer e que vença o que a maioria achar justo.

№9 – in my opinion the best!
Figure 10 has shades of blues that make us realize the sky, sea, figures that come together, fly, swim, float. There is no beginning or end, and a lot of ways when resuming peace. A reflection on the purpose that such a meeting has to offer us a group celebrating and honoring excellence in broadcast talent and also much love and peace. Love you a-ha. Recife-Brasil

with mousematt, isamadrid and annawb I agree – the number 9 is not a logo, even if it looks very good. number 6 is also my favorite because is it that what a logo has to be: creative, simple, good to print on different medias. really nice designed with the butterfly – it is the last hurrah and that’s it.
I don’t get the thing with no 9:
- you can’t even read the “25″
- it is crowded, it doesn’t stay in your memory because it hasn’t something easy to remember (a symbol, a shape, a typeface)
- you will never print that on merchandise, but only on paper as a flyer/banner or something
- and as more people said here, this is NOT a logo, as requested by this contest. I don’t know who authorized this material in the finals, but any graphic designer with a bit of knowledge can confirm that. Just go to the bottom of this screen and look at the social network icons. They are logos, easy to recognize, simple, clean.
I liked no. 2 but felt it should’ve had a bit of colour in it and no. 4 lacked something (I don’t know what). No. 6 was the one I voted for I like the butterfly/heart design and although I do like no. 9 I felt its too similar to the original artwork for butterfly. Congrats to all the Nominees.
Oh and I forgot. This is from the rules:
“Please note that designs should have a maximum of four colours, spot colour designs preferred, without gradients. Please submit your design in Hi RES format, hi quality, on plain white background.”

Lia, congratulations: your logo is very successful and deserves to be ahead. However, there are interesting things in each logo. I like the work with “a-ha” on No°1…
I’m surprised that mine has so many votes. Thank you all. I missed time for work, I posted quickly so I unfortunately forgot the butterfly by mishandling (so sorry)!

No. 4 gets my vote – it’s simple and clean as a logo should be and looks great on a t-shirt
I agree that Logo 9 has been disqualified. It was pretty, but wasn’t really suitable for a logo. However, I am surprised that mine (Logo 1) is up there too. ^_^
I tried hard to be original with the a-ha logo, but maybe that’s not what people were looking for? I wanted to make it interesting, meaningful, cool, and simple at the same time, and I hope I succeeded. The butterfly is supposed to be hidden in the “a” and it’s kind of a rebirth/regeneration/reincarnation to last an eternity as we will grow from and beyond a-ha.
I’m curious about what males think about hearts/butterflies in designs. It is one reason I didn’t use a heart symbol since I was worried I wasn’t being inclusive enough to a wider audience. I would vote for Logo 7 because it is clever and somewhat eye-catching with a-ha highlighted out of the text. It’s simple and not over the top or too obvious. I like the little puzzle.
However, congrats to all the finalists because it is a difficult decision!! @_@
Maybe it’s too simple, and I should have added more info about the party or something. ^^;

I would like to answer Roxley. I like your comment and I share your questions about the heart. In my opinion, your “a-ha” is very good (the butterfly subtle), your message is clear (no need more), but the sign of infinity is too strong (hoping to bring you a light).

Thanks for your comments on my submission Logo 7. As others have mentioned a logo is much than a standalone graphic, but comes alive once applied to items such as mugs, t-shirts and tickets etc. Of course a logo should also work in isolation.
I’ve tried to create a mini “brand”, rather than just a logo, thus the second typographic solution with the band members name/25 used on the back of t-shirts and as a secondary brand marque.

I respect your opinion and that’s a good point, and I feel the same with the heart in logo 6. It’s a great and simple design, but it might be a bit strong with the butterfly heart like the infinity symbol.
That is why I would go with logo 7. But maybe I should add some references like everyone else has and not depend on the simple logo and leave everything else to people’s imaginations or leaving the text/info up for later..

CHOMP: It’s such a pity that you didn’t add the items with your logo, because I really liked the design you posted ; but for me it was a great poster. When I saw your “brand” I was very not having voting for yours. I really like A-HA hidden in the name of the 3 members of the band, very original.
The same for you Delph, I liked your logo, it remembers me the last a-ha design. I would like the range of the items also.
Maybe it’s better because the choice was very hard

Definitely number Four. I love the listing of all the albums over the years, and the simplicity of the design. I’d love to have that tshirt too. It’s such a pity that there’s so much geography between here and Oslo.

I agree that every logo design has good qualities, and that’s what makes it so hard to choose! It would be nice if different elements from different logos could be combined, inspire new designs, or something..
I think the text at the bottom of logo 9 is very cool, actually..
I think #5 is by far the best one, being both beautiful and intelligent. On the other hand,although in many ways an effective solution, easily recognizable and transferable etc. as some have observed, #6 to my mind isn’t as clever. There’s something nonsensical about the idea of a broken heart flying away as a butterfly.

I voted for logo no.1 because it’s means that aha and their music will be treasured forever until eternity. which is exactly how I feel.
Roxley, with all do respect you are far from doing the right thing. At the end of the day this is a competition and it is fair to let other people judge. I have been reading your comments and browsing your blog too, and while it might be OK promoting your own work, I think it is a lack of fair play and common courtesy showing and expressing so much criticism to your competition.
You should know your attitude can backfire as well.
One more thing … this should be a voter’s vote as if I am not mistaken the logo is for the fans.

My take is that the winning logo, regardless which one, should be the reflection of what A-HA fans like and not some artist’s friends , while the second quote seems to me like incentive to cheating.

Hi, Toranaga. I may not be the only one promoting this to my friends, but I’m sorry if I was being too critical. I thought it was okay to promote it because it could mean promotion for a-ha too. If you do not agree with my methods, then that’s alright. Like Catherine said, it will be judged fairly, so you needn’t worry. It doesn’t look like it will win anyway. Sorry you feel offended by my need to promote this voting outside of the fanbase. I just felt it shouldn’t be so exclusive. Let everyone know who a-ha is, especially in the USA where nobody knows.
Thanks for your concern about the fans, but I am a fan too. I like to let my friends know about the things I like, and this was a good opportunity. I am also a student, so social networking about it is second-nature to me. Yes, the second point is cheating, but it was a natural instinct when it happened. Sorry… I was not intentionally doing things a-ha fans might not like because I thought it was normal to promote, and perhaps because I am a younger fan and feel the need to blog… I apologize, and I hope you understand where I come from.
Roxley I think is right at one point, unfortunately it is almost natural to use these methods to achieve his own ends. Having already participated in contests of designs, I know that those who are on Facebook, or other, can easily cheat. others may have done that here … I would not be surprised.
Personally I am very happy to have participated in this competition and that people I don’t know have enjoyed my logo, although I am moderately satisfied with my work. This is my reward, thank you!

I was actually have been troubled by the criticism ( but that’s a personal opinion ) and the little cheating incentive ( which anyway I don’t think it can work) … I am certain that all finalists promoted their logo to friends and asked for a vote and I do think it is a natural thing to do. That being said, congratulations to everyone that made the final!

Roxley: I understand that you are young and overexcited about this competition, but to go on your blog and write mean things about that logo, and the other logo … is disrespect, while here you’ve only received objective criticism. Of course, you can write whatever you want in your own blog. It’s just that it says a lot about your competitive attitude. So, let the best logo win.
I thought this was a brilliant competition and after a lot of thought I voted for No. 6 a few days ago as I love this logo and it’s perfect for The Last Hurrah as it symbolises the end with the Butterfly/Heart beautifully and butterflies are not just for women; for example – Morten loves butterflies and orchids and that certainly doesn’t make him too feminine!
Anyway, I can’t believe that such a brilliant competition has caused such a debate, although I do agree with the decision to exclude Number 9 from the voting, however it seems that there are other logos who have more than 4 colours as well as white is a colour, just a thought?!

Hi Jemlovesaha! No, the white printing is not a color (white is given by the white paper, there is no ink). But it is true that some haven’t completely responded to the request. However, it is not very important, the logo at the top responds perfectly to the demand. It seems to be our winner.

I am happy that a-ha fans are very passionate but I am sad that fans pretend to be so passionate to cheat and justify it.
I hope Catherine this could be check thanks to the signup to a-ha web for example. It was a bit strange that one logo got so many votes in one day…
ANOTHER IDEA: Could it be possible to display all the logos at the party (the selected and the others)? This would be a good way to homage all the fans who participated. It has been very hard to choose
PD: If I remember well the course of drawing, black and white are considered as “non-couleur”. It would be best for us to ask Mags his opinion

It’s unfortunate to me that so many of these logos are not as gender neutral as they could be.
Hearts and Butterflies, while they apply to a-ha’s most recent single, are not something I’d find myself wearing around in public.
Something simple yet stylish like numbers 4 or 7 are perfect, but alas I guess I’ll never get to wear them.
