A-Ha Play Second-Ever Chicago Show on Farewell Tour
a-ha waves goodbye to Chicago
Yipee, I’m finally able to post a comment! I just wanted to say “Thank you” again to the band for coming to Chicago! I saw them back in ’86 and now again. Morten, Mags and Pal made the choice to come to our city out of all the cities in the U.S.A. and that REALLY means a lot to me as well as to other a-ha fans, THANKS! The show was amazing, I was standing about 10 feet back from the stage and felt all the energy from the band and the audience. All the songs brought back a flood of memories for me as I generously donated a jubulant scream or two! Morten sounded superb, Mags was excellent on the keyboards, Pal was brilliant on the guitar and the drummer was great. All of these great sounds combined together made for a magical evening that I will never forget! It was truly the best concert I ever attended. Afterward, the band come out to do autographs and pics, which I have one with Mags, and an autograph from Morten, you guys really know how to make dreams come true! Sadly, this is the end of the band touring, but please don’t let the music stop too! The creative music that ALL three of you put together is truly euphoric and it would be a great disservice if you would stop. I realize that have to move on, but don’t let the music of a-ha end, it means so much to me, the fans and even probably to you three too! Yes, you deserve a long break, you all have certainly earned it and want to try other things too but please, as it was said in your own words, “Don’t let your lifelines go…” THANK YOU again, for sharing your gifts with all your fans, especially the ones in Chicago, it really means a lot to us. Have peace in your hearts and God Bless you all.
What a wonderful concert! I posted some pictures on your flickr group. Amazing – we will miss you guys!
This was my 3rd concert to see a-ha – all since 2000 – once in Munich, New York in 2005, and now Chicago – the closest one as I live in Madison WI. I was hoping that the tickets would actually mean something, but it was a general standing room only sort-of thing. And as we got there a bit late, my wife and I had to stand fairly far back and she couldn’t see. We eventually went up to the balcony for awhile.

I was probably one of the few people around me who was singing every word to every song and I’m sure I got some stares. Some people I’m sure were there just for “Take on Me”. It’s probably a generational thing, but I just want to smash people’s phones and tell them to watch the concert
The visuals behind the stage were stunning. And the stage was simple yet elegant. I enjoyed the concert, but for me the sound was less than optimal. When I look at Paul and he is playing an acoustic guitar, the first thing that came to my mind is “why?” as I surely couldn’t hear it. Morten’s voice was on tonight, especially when he nailed “Summer Moved On”. My favorite parts of the concert were when the guys stripped everything down in “And You Tell Me” and “Early Morning” – that was great and showed their immense talent! Perhaps the concert wasn’t made for the smaller venue. So, this was probably my least favorite concert, but my wife said she has a new appreciation for the group and really enjoys the “Foot of the Mountain” CD, so to me that makes all the difference!
Like 7K’s review, I hope that a-ha doesn’t stop making music, but they have been pretty clear about that. I am a big fan of Savoy and wish they would come to Chicago or Madison for that matter. It indeed is an end of an era and makes me realize I am getting older (40 this year). “There’s Never a Forever Thing”, eh? I just want to thank Morten, Magne, and Paul for leaving us with 100+ songs – some unforgettable, others not so much, but my life is much richer and more complete having had their music in my life. As the music industry becomes more fragmented and you can’t tell who sings one song from the next, it was always comforting to come back to a group whose music video astounded me in 1985 and then their music amazed me when I rediscovered them with East of the Sun in 1991.
Thank you a-ha for the music – your songs will never be forgotten!
FYI..there was an article in the Chicago Sun Times on May 11,2010 on a-ha. I’m excited about the new single, can’t wait till Monday to here it! I know that it will be awesome, just one more thing guys, “SSSTTTTAAAYYY, please don’t go away!” Sorry, but you guys mean a lot to us! If you are not going to tour, how about an studio album every few years or so? Just think about it while you take a long deserved break. Thanks again Morten, Magne and Pal for all the wonderful music and God Bless you all. P.S. Thanks to the a-ha.com team for the website and keeping the fans up to date with the latest info! We truly appreciate ALL your hard work.
I was at the amazing and intimate Chicago show. Thanks A-Ha for a fantastic set list representing 25 years of such powerfully written and performed music! Future generations of songwriters can learn a thing or two from you, as the landscape of music is ever changing. Apologies to attendees I may have obstructed during the show, but I did get some really REALLY great pics and videos I’d love to share. I posted a few on Flickr & You Tube but not sure how to link from here.
The concert in Chicago was a dream come true. We were hoping for Atlanta, but so glad we drove the 12 hours to see a-ha in Chicago (1600 miles roundtrip). During the first song, I was trying to figure out if it was real or Memorex. Their voices were so pure. Beautiful smiles. So wonderful to see the guys still having fun. Amazing night!
Why do you not come to mexico?
I wanna see you!!!
This was my first A-ha concert, though I had wanted to see them for 25 years. I didn’t get a chance to see them in Milwaukee back in 1986. But hey, better late than never!! Two days later I was in L.A. to see them again. What a fun and exhausting weekend. How bands like A-ha can do this sort of thing for a living is beyond me. But thank God they do!! Life would be so boring without them!! I loved the concert so much and was down in front of the stage about 10 to 15 ft. away. It was hard for me to see because I’m short, but I really didn’t care too much, as my best friend got some good video and pictures. The important thing for me was that I got to see A-ha!!!! I was so happy when they came on that I cried tears of joy! I do hope that Morten, Mags and Paul continue to make great music in the future as it would be sad indeed for them to stop. Do you know what it means to love you…….?
