Originally from South Africa, I was in the UK on holiday in 1986 aged 12 and could not get tickets to see them at the Newcastle city hall, but 24 years later now living in the UK, I finally got to see them. Great show! Better than I could have imagined.Thank you for a great night.
What a truly fantastical experience!
I have seen A-ha live a few times in the last few years but this was special.
Morten had the audience in the palm of his hand and the setlist was sublime, although a few lesser sung gems such as Little Black Heart or This Alone Is Love would not have gone astray. Touchy would have been a nice touch too.
I notice there seems to be a set setlist now and think this could be slightly varied show to show to benefit the big fans who are going to more than one show.
After the show a few of us went backstage to try and greet the band. After waiting in icy cold conditions for over an hour, Morten left in a mercedes, granting us barely but a wave. HOWEVER lovely, lovely Mags (it was always obvious he was the nice one really) was a bit more appreciative of our 25 year devotion and came to sign autographs and pose for a few photographs, which took all of 5 mins but was greatly appreciated.
Thank you A-ha for coming to my hometown and giving us a great show. Thank you Mags for being such a jolly nice chap and making a handful of fans all that little happier : )
Yeah you have to remember he has just lost his mom,and maybe the cold would effect his voice? all i know is that at the nia in b’ham last year he got out of the car and sighed loads of autographs and had pictures taken, and i even managed to kiss him,he could’nt of been more friendly. looking forward to lg on friday and nottingham, managed to get front row for both.
Enjoyed the concert at Glasgow last night.
Was also disappointed with back stage after the gig. Pal came out signed autographs, then we had to wait ages for Morten in the freezing cold, he just wanted to go in the car but we shouted him to come and say goodbye. He did come over but said ‘I won’t be able to sign them all’ and ‘Im not touching hands so put them away’. It may have been better if he had just gone in his car as I feel his tone and words were inappropriate. After this I was tempted to just go home but didn’t want to have my lasting memory to be of this so we waited for Mags which seemed to be another 40 minutes. It WAS worth the wait he gave some girls hugs, had photos taken and signed autographs and chatted a bit despite the freezing cold. Thanks Mags you are a star and made a lot of the girls very happy x
Sadly I’ve never met any of them, its a shame to hear of Morten not being very friendly. Maybe he was just having an off day, or doesn’t like foriegners….?
We were there! 16th November 2010! Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the whole place and atmosphere,ELECTRIC!
A fantastic stage, a fantastic set! Really amazing. Startling performances by everyone. Heartfelt vocals, stunning screen projections, scintillating strings from Pål, keyboard wizards from Magne. There aren’t enough characters available on the website to express our thanks & gratitude at being able to share “Ending On A High Note” tour with you, a-ha.
Grateful for the 25 years we’ve been able to share with you.
Thank you for being a big part of our lives, we can only wish you all well well for the light you brought into our lives, to everyone’s lives.
Good Luck & a sad but fond farewell.
We absolutely thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, I first saw Aha at the city Hall inthe eighties, this time for the last time I have seen them in Newcastle again, this time accompanied by my eight year old daughter who loved it, her first ever concert. She now trys to teach her baby sister Poppy all the words. How did you get back stage? We waited outside for a little while but it was too cold for my daughter (and late) Will miss aha so much it was sad and euphoric, seeing my life in music so many memories, I thank you for that. x x x x
Vi var der! 16 Års november 2010! Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle-på-sjøveien, hele sted og atmosfære, elektrisk! En fantastisk scene, en fantastisk angi! Virkelig utrolige.
A wonderful night.
I’ve waited twenty-odd years to see A-ha live, having missed them every other time they’ve been in the North-East, although when they played City Hall in 1991 my dad did manage to get a signed ‘get well’ card from them as I was laid up in hospital (one of the reasons I missed them that time!). Needless to say I was a very happy bunny when my husband bought me tickets to their Farewell Concert as an early birthday present! A childhood dream come true
I bought my mam tickets to the Newcastle show for her 60th birthday. She has been to many concerts and has never managed to see them after the show or meet them in person. It was my first show and after the concert I took her to the back of the Arena to try and get a picture or autographs as she loves Morten. She had brought a picture with her and held it up through most of the show. It was FREEZING cold ouside and we stood in the freezing cold for over an hour after the show to try to meet them. I had written to the record company and she had also written a letter and addressed it to the Arena in the hope it would reach them and be read.
After an hour waiting in the freezing cold the band just drove off in a small white van, straight through the waiting crowd of about 30 people. I was very disappointed. My mam shivvered with the cold all the way home, and we had trouble getting her warm even when we got back home. Although I enjoyed the concert, the treatment of fans left a little to be desired. I was told afterwards that Morten’s mother had died a few weeks ago. Maybe if someone could have come out and just explained that he wasn’t up to seeing people it would have saved us all waiting in the freezing cold. It was her only chance to get autographs or a picture, and she missed it.

Ok, people, could you lay off Morten already? Even he is allowed to have an off day. I’m not one to excuse bad behavior from anybody (even him) but he is, without doubt, under enormous pressure right now to see the tour till the end. He certainly doesn’t want to risk getting badly sick now. And, for God’s sakes, he just lost his mum not too long ago.
Leave him alone.
Thank you A-ha for coming and spending the evening with us in Newcastle, our hometown. Me and my husband have seen you over the last 8 years in London at the Royal Albert Hall (June 2002 and October 2010), Glasgow (2002 and 2005) and Birmingham (2009) and so it was lovely but also strange to see you in Newcastle without having to travel anywhere. You, as always performed well and it was such an amazing night for us especially as for the first time ever we had been lucky to get front row tickets. However, although we had front row tickets we were sitting to the extreme left of the stage beyond the stage end and were a little disappointed that it took until Foot of the Mountain for Morten to come to our side of the stage. Although, it was worth it when he did! Roll on 2nd December when we will see you for the very last time in your hometown, Oslo to say our final farewell!!!
I was also outside the Clyde Auditorium waiting for autographs, and although Morten did seem like he was ready to go, he wasn’t as rude as he has been made out to be. His words were actually: “I don’t think I’ll be able to do you all” (fnar fnar). And he didn’t refuse to touch hands, he said, “I don’t have enough hands”. He certainly touched more than enough hands while on stage. One rather large woman kept repeatedly grabbing his hand, I’m surprised she didn’t pull the poor guy down on top of her!
I was fortunate enough to be in the third row from the stage on Tuesday the 16th of November 2010 at Newcastle. It’s almost a whole week since the concert and i’m still smiling! The whole evening was a dream come true, having resigned myself to never seeing my teen idols perform live. The stage set was fantastic, the live music was beyond words and Mags was right infront of me the whole show! OMG!!!!! What more could a girl ask for? It was with many, many, many, tears that i waved to the boys as they left the stage for the last time. I would like to send my sincerest best wishes to Aha for the future, what ever they choose to do . . . may you find happiness in all that you do. Love and Light xxxxx
I fell in love with a-ha 25 years ago when I was 12,the very first time I heard take on me. It’s been a very long wait but I finally got to see them live on 16th november and it was worth the wait!
A-ha have been a part of my life for so long and I feel so sad that it has come to an end,but it was so fantastic that I’ll naver forget it.
And Morton is still as hot as ever! Thank you Morton,Magne and Pal for being part of my life.x
I just want to say ‘very well said Little_Black_Heart!!’ I completely agree with your comments regarding Morten & you wrote what I thought ‘cos I was getting really fed-up with people’s cruel comments and total disregard for Morten’s feelings so I thank you for your much needed comments. Celebrities have feelings too – they’re not made of steel!!
I was at Wembley Arena and his voice was absolutely amazing & he had a great sense of humour as well. I loved it when he said to the audience ‘I’d like to hear you sing, can you do that?’
I really admire his strength and courage as he probably hasn’t even had chance to grief properly ‘cos of the Farewell Tour, etc.
Hugs to Morten XXXXX
One of the best nights of my life when a-ha played at Newcastle. It brought back memories of my childhood and listening for the first time the hunting high and low album. The concert was fanatastic with all band members on form and Morten’s voice as magical as ever. I must admit i lost track of a-ha’s carreer through 1990′s – 2000′s, but after being to the concert i have purchased their albums and have to say they just get better and better with Minor earth and Analogue my personel favourites. It has also prompted me to purchase both Morten’s and Magne’s solo albums which are again fantastic. I cannot stress enough the brilliance of a-ha and the likes will never be seen again.
Hope they keep making music in some form, additional solo albums would be a dream!
Lay off Morten! While the rest of the band were delayed at Heathrow for 7 hours, Morten chose to drive up himself so he actually could make the gig on time (hence the black Mercedes car).
Not sure I would have been to chatty if I had driven 350 miles then done a couple of hours on stage either! Did’nt know about his personal circumstances. A lot of artists may have cancelled given his loss.
At one point they were not too sure if the rest of them would make it or not, resulting in either the show being cancelled or a Morten solo performance!
Happily everyone got there eventually and the gig was fantastic. I got in the second row and would have to say that it’s one of the best shows they have done.
Thanks guys for 25 wonderful and inspring years of music. Enjoy your retirement, but don’t dissapear altogether!
Two words – “Thank you”….
